Our Purpose

To restore Indigenous Knowledge Systems as foundations for recognised professions, community-owned institutions, enterprise, innovation and sustainable African economies.

Our Culture

Our work is guided by Indigenous authority, customary governance, collective benefit, integrity, reciprocity, innovation and responsibility to future generations. 

We believe Indigenous communities must remain the authorities, decision-makers and primary beneficiaries of the knowledge, institutions and economies built from their heritage and resources.


Our Principles

Indigenous communities are the custodians of their knowledge systems and must remain central to their governance, development and future.

Indigenous knowledge, natural resources and cultural assets must be governed through community authority, free, prior and informed consent, equitable participation and fair benefit-sharing.

Professionalisation must strengthen the credibility, safety and continuity of Indigenous practice through ethical standards, recognised competence, lifelong learning and continuous improvement.

Innovation must strengthen Indigenous Knowledge Systems without removing knowledge from its cultural, ecological, spiritual and community context.

The value created from Indigenous Knowledge Systems must support community wellbeing, enterprise development, stronger local economies and long-term Indigenous participation.

Lasting impact requires respectful collaboration among communities, practitioners, Indigenous leaders, researchers, governments, enterprises, investors and institutions.

Indigenous Knowledge Systems are inherited from previous generations, governed by present communities and protected for future generations.

Expanding enterprise, finance, investment and market access so that Indigenous communities participate as producers, owners and beneficiaries.

Professionalisation, Skills, and Recognition

Building recognised standards, ethical practice, training, accreditation, Recognition of Prior Learning and workforce pathways for Indigenous practitioners and knowledge holders.

Advancing community-governed research, technology, product development, production and responsible Indigenous industrialisation.


Our Governance

The Embo General Assembly

The Representative Body of IPROSA


The Embo General Assembly brings together IPROSA members, communities, practitioners and institutional partners.


It provides a representative platform for participation, dialogue and guidance on IPROSA’s long-term direction.

The Sovereign Circle

Community and Knowledge Governance


The Sovereign Circle provides Indigenous knowledge, cultural, ethical and community-governance guidance.


It ensures that IPROSA’s programmes, research, partnerships and economic activities respect customary authority, Indigenous worldviews, community protocols and collective rights.

The Executive Board

Institutional Governance


The Executive Board oversees IPROSA’s strategy, finance, compliance, risk management and institutional accountability.


It ensures that the organisation remains credible, transparent, sustainable and aligned with its public-benefit purpose.

National Committees

Technical and Programme Leadership


National Committees bring together specialists from Indigenous communities, academia, government, industry, finance, law, technology and civil society.


They provide technical leadership and support the design, implementation and evaluation of IPROSA programmes.


Partnerships for Impact


PROSA connects Indigenous communities with universities, governments, development partners, private-sector institutions and international Indigenous networks to strengthen Indigenous participation and ownership across Africa’s emerging green, blue, bioeconomy, health and cultural economy sectors.
